Human Hair Extensions
Hair
extensions have become a high fashion accessory used by women all
around the world. Hair Extensions have traditionally been a very costly
beauty market dominated by hair of European origin; however with an
influx of a less expensive, higher quality alternatives like Indian
Hair, the market has shifted and now extensions are affordable for
everyone.
Hair Flair uses a New Remy Single Drawn Indian Hair. NRSD is human hair that has been collected from multiple sources. NRSD selections have had the cuticles descaled prior to processing to prevent quality issues. NRSD selections are available in natural colors and will have a natural taper near the ends. The life of this product is typically 3 to 6 months depending on end client usage. We find that this makes extensions affordable for the general public. This type of hair is suitable for 90% of extension wearers. It offers good quality hair at an affordable price.
For clients who are willing to pay extra for exceptional quality hair we have Remy Single Drawn Hair. RSD hair is the best quality premium human hair available. Each selection has been sourced from one donor, all the cuticles are intact and you will notice each selection of RSD has a natural taper at the end. Each selection of RSD virgin hair has undergone a stringent quality assurance process to ensure it is free of imperfections. This product can last well up to a year with proper care. If you would like RSD hair it is an additional $250.
Asian hair (mostly Chinese hair) is very often used for human hair extensions. This hair is thicker than European hair and has a round cross-section. This hair is less expensive than European hair and offers a good alternative if you don’t want to pay incredibly high prices for your extensions. We use Asian hair for all of our unusual shades (pink/purple/blue).
Remember you should only wear your extensions around 3 months so it is up to you, the customer to decide how much you are willing to pay and what quality of hair best suits you and your budget.
STYLING HUMAN HAIR
Everyone knows when you first get hair extensions they are smooth and shinny, but once you wash them they go back to their natural state which is not always so nice. This is mostly because the hair is ironed with an industrial strength flat iron and sprayed with a silicone coating. You also have to remember that it is real human hair so the ends can dry out (as the hair is usually 20” in length)
You can get your hair back to a smooth shine. Care should be taken with washing, trying not to rough up the hair too much (as this could lead to tangling and eventually the falling out of the hair when trying to comb out). Use a good creamy shampoo and conditioner, they don’t have to be expensive. Dove shampoos and conditioners are really good for hair extensions as well. Just make sure you are using a very gentle shampoo.
Once hair is washed, press with a towel to absorb most of the moisture, when hair is damp (not super wet) comb with a wide tooth comb to remove tangles. Start at the bottom and work your way up, once tangle free let the hair extensions air dry. I like to add a bit of oil or serum to the damp hair before it is fully dried.
Next you will need a flat iron, one that gets really hot, I recommend 400 degrees because the hair is usually Asian or Indian hair and needs really high heat. You will also need a flat iron spray, something that adds shine and a bit of hold. I have used a few good drug store brands as well as salon brands, I recommend experimenting to see what works the best for you. Also use a heat protectant spray to avoid heat damage to your own hair.
Flat iron one piece at a time, spraying a section with the flat iron spray s and slowly running the flat iron down the hair (but not too slow so it burns!). You should repeat this step until the hair is smooth. Flat iron the remaining sections. Once it is completely flat ironed, I like to add a bit more shine by spraying a light silicone spray. An affordable one that I really like that sprays super fine and is not greasy is got2b dazzling shine spray. Run the flat iron down the hair extensions one more time to seal in the shine and smooth the cuticle. Voila, your hair extensions should be back to its original condition. You can also repeat the above steps but use a very hot curling iron which will help smooth and seal the hair.
Eventually your extensions will need to be replaced. Generally they last 3 months, but with minimal washing and excellence maintenance they can last up to 6 months. Darker extensions usually tend to have a longer life than lighter shades because they are not bleached.
